  • Inter-Gender hand shaking

    hand_shaking

I've never exactly been sure on the best way to shake hands with a woman. I guess out of some antiquated Idea, I've always thought, you were supposed to keep your palm semi flat, and give a light squeeze. Lately I have been noticing some women seem irritated by this, preferring instead to shake normally, or gripping my hand more strongly than I would have anticipated. We all know how important 1st impressions are, in EVERY situation so I was hoping to get some feedback. How should a man shake a woman's hand?

I won't say shake our hands just like you would a mans because for some men that means gripping with extra strength. But as for "position" or "style" just do the same. Don't give a weak hand or barely touch us. We're not fragile creatures that are going to break if you give our hand a gentle squeeze. Look her in the eyes and give a genuine "It's nice to meet you.", "Hi," w/e... and shake her hand with a firm grasp, then let go. First impression... done.

I always find that when I am shaking a man's hand, I grip it harder than I would a woman's. Mostly to make a good impression. I always like having a "strong handshake for a girl." I always appreciate getting a good strong handshake from a man.

I don't really have any preconcieved notions about how you should give a handshake to a member of the opposite gender.

Just a firm handshake is great. Don't give the woman a handshake like you are afraid of touching her hand or as if her hand is filled with bacteria ... I hate handshakes like that - makes me feel that the guy is like some cold, stuck-up, listless swine : P

@principessadolce@xanga -Thank you, I always thought it was better to be gentle from now on I will give a firmer grip.
